Reimagining life through creativity and community

All of us long for joy, rest, beauty, and belonging—but finding them isn’t always simple or easy. Shelter in Place is an award-winning narrative nonfiction podcast blending open-hearted personal essays and intimate interviews. With musicians' ears, writers' pens, and voices that invite you in, we examine life's timely events and timeless questions.

In our early-pandemic season one (March-July 2020), we were “seeking sanity in a world that felt increasingly insane.” In season two (Sept ‘20-May ‘21), our “pandemic Odyssey,” we chronicled our physical and mental journey, with perspectives from those we met on the way. In season three (Sept ‘21-May ‘22), we searched for home, and a way to escape not out of life, but into it.

This just in — Shelter in Place made the “Top 10 creativity podcasts” list on Goodpods, in October 2023! See the full list here.

Laura Joyce Davis // writer & host

Shelter in Place was pandemic-born, an author’s way to chronicle and contend with a unique moment in history. Though a longtime fiction writer, Laura sensed that a daily podcast would better keep pace with current events, force her to grow creatively, and enable livelier and more inclusive conversation.
